We have not been out for a meal since February this year. I know that restaurants and coffee shops are open and operating with COVID safe protocols, but in our view, it is still not worth the risk to eat out. From what we see on the news, tables in many venues are not the regulation 1.5 m apart and the tables themselves are only small. Also, the government is resisting making face masks for wait staff compulsory. So for us, it is stay at home for the time being and create our own fun.
How do we do that? We make our own ‘pub meals’ and have our ‘date night’ at home each week.
Here are a few ideas for stay safe at home, fun ‘pub’ meals:
- Gourmet Pizza ( the easy way)
- Lamb Shanks in Red Wine and Chilli with Creamy Mashed Potato
- Honey Glazed Chicken with Smashed Potatoes
- Fish and Chips – just buy your favourite, battered fish with some pub style chips and serve with a light salad for a quick pub meal in!
And don’t forget the dessert:
Ice cream and maple syrup – no need for a recipe for this one!
Self Saucing Golden Syrup Puddings with Ice cream
Warm Gingerbread Cake with Vanilla Ice cream and Cream
Once you choose the beverage to go with the meal, its time to get dressed up, invite someone to join you for a virtual meal date, and you are all set for a fun and safe night in!
