amazing essential oils lavender foaming handwash 2

If you have been reading our blog for a while you will know that we have replaced all of our household cleaners and personal hygiene and beauty products with natural ones that I make.

But some of these products have been easier than others to make. One of the longest struggles has been with deodorant. I have actually been trialling various recipes for the past 18 months! I posted on this topic earlier this year when I had tried a few different bicarb and bees wax recipes. I was reasonably happy with these for a while but then they failed me big time.

From what I have read, many people are allergic to bicarb and unfortunately many natural recipes that are based on bicarb leave us uncomfortable and itchy. By adjusting the mix of bicarb and arrowroot or another filler, you can reduce the itchiness but by doing that you reduce the effectiveness of the deodorant. Also, the natural recipes are not antiperspirants so we still sweat and this can leave us uncomfortable. And of course, what we eat can impact how much we smell. You can try a detox at the same time as you switch to the natural deodorant. Apparently that helps some people!

So what’s the answer? My answer is to search for alternatives, give them a go and see what happens. Now that I have made the break from the commercial blends to DIY I have overcome the fear of the deodorant failing me and I am willing to give all options a go. I really don’t want to buy a natural one either because I have the ingredients at home to make my own!

So a few months ago when a friend posted on Facebook that she was going to stop buying a certain brand of natural deodorant and make it herself I thought – here we go, lets try it. And so far I have been happy with it. Thanks Leesa, here is what I am currently using.
