Homemade Christmas Gifts: Christmas Wreath 8

Have you ever made a Christmas Wreath? There are many types of wreaths to make and over the years I have made quite a few. This year I decided to make one with material scraps as I have lots of bits and pieces left from making face masks. I am also not too keen to go to the shops because of the pandemic so I decided to make my wreath with materials that I have on hand. This serves two purposes – I save money and make room in my sewing cupboard! But more importantly I get to customise a gift for the special people in my life – all my gifts are made with love!

What you will need:

Scraps of material – they can be Christmas theme material as well as bright colours.

Pinking shears

A wire coat hanger

A bell (optional)

Ribbon to cover the hook

Method:

Gather your material and using your pinking shears, cut into strips ranging from 1-2 cm wide and 6-10 cm long. I deliberately cut strips of different sizes.

Bend your coat hanger so that it forms a rough circle. You won’t be able to make it perfectly round but that’s OK because you will be covering it.

Organise your materials as you like – I grouped the colours and patterns.

Start tying the strips onto the coat hanger.

Keep adding the material strips until you are happy with the wreath.

I added a bell on a string over the top.

Starting at the base of the hook, wind the ribbon around the wire. Continue to the end of the hook then keep winding round until you get back to the base. Tie off the ribbon and cut the ends off.

Cut two 20-25 cm long strips of material ( around 3 cm width) and place one on top of the other, right sides on the outside and tie a bow around the base of the hook.

Your wreath is now ready!
