amazing essential oils lavender cream

As a user of Essential Oils you will no doubt find that some of your family and friends will question and even mock the use of oils. So the day that a family member asks if you have an oil to help them is very exciting. Now I’m not saying that Andrew mocked my new found passion with oils but he was quiet about the oils for a long time before he actually asked for help. You will notice from the picture at the bottom of our blog posts that Andrew has a beard. That beard has taken a lot of growing. Did you know that there is such a thing as ‘terminal length’ for beards? Although this is genetic, the rate of beard growth can be influenced by a person’s health. So maintaining a healthy diet and exercise to keep the body healthy should help you grow your beard!

* Before I go on I just want to let you know that I have added some links to my doTERRA webpage throughout this post so you can check out any of the oils I mention.

How is this connected to Essential Oils? The connection comes from the need to groom the beard. Using beard oils and balms can also nourish the beard hair to support growth. So that’s why Andrew asked me the question I love to hear – do you have an oil for that?

As his beard grew longer, it became wavy with a kind of kink in the middle that he wasn’t happy with. We did some research on DIY beard oils and balms and found that there are many recipes out there. First of all we just mixed up an oil with Lavender and Clary Sage Essential Oils diluted in Sweet Almond oil. This is easy to do in a dropper bottle or small spray bottle. Just add 10 drops of each Essential Oil to 10-15 mls of Sweet Almond Oil. To apply, you can either spray on to the beard or place a drop on your hand and apply on to the beard. I think, based on our experience that this is best done with a shorter beard.

Because Andrew’s beard was already quite long he needed something more substantial to tame it. So I made a beard balm which not only nourished the hair but allowed for some taming to happen!

So this is our recipe.

You will need:

3 tablespoons of Beeswax

3 teaspoons Shea Butter

3 teaspoons Sweet Almond or Jojoba Oil

2 teaspoons Argan Oil

4 drops of Vitamin E Oil

10 drops Clary Sage Essential Oil

5 drops Rosemary Essential Oil

5 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Method:

Place Beeswax and Shea butter into a small bowl and melt in the Microwave using the steps below.

Heat in Microwave on High for 1 minute.

Stir well.

Heat on High again for 30 seconds and stir again.

Continue heating, in 30 second intervals until completely melted.

Add all other oils and mix well.

Transfer to a glass jar or metal tin and allow to cool. Once cool, cover with lid. If you make more than one container or jar, keep the extras in the fridge to prolong shelf life or gift to a friend!

And look how long the beard is now! Not sure how much the balm helped the length but it did help him get through the awkward wavy phase.
