I just finished cleaning my house and this week I used my steam mop to clean the kitchen and hall way. Some weeks I can’t be bothered getting out the steam mop and just use a sponge mop and a spray that I make up with a Protective Blend Cleaner Concentrate. This does an OK job but somehow the floor is not quite as clean as when I use the steam mop. In fact this morning I looked at my floor after I had finished using the steam mop and made a promise to myself to use the steam mop every week. I hope I remember next week!

Before I go on I just want to let you know that I have added some links to my doTERRA webpage throughout this post so you can check out any of the oils I mention.

You may be wondering why I am making a fuss about this? Don’t get me wrong, I am not particularly house proud and unlike my mother who washed her floors every day, I do mine 1-2 times a week or when they look dirty.  I have black and white check floors in my kitchen and the white sections tend to get dirty very quickly. The steam mop definitely does the trick on the white sections.

Here are the 3 reasons why you should use a steam mop:

1.No need for nasty chemicals: This was my number one reason for purchasing a steam mop. The mop cleans purely with steam. So you will not need to use any commercial cleaners. You will also avoid breathing in the smell left behind by those cleaners.

2.Steam mop cleaning gives you a much cleaner floor than mopping with an ordinary sponge mop and cleaning solution. I can see how clean the floor is and know that it has been cleaned by steam rather than just hot water.

3. The floor dries quickly. This is particularly important in the cold or wet weather when really wet floors can take ages to dry. A quick drying floor means there is less chance of people slipping or dirtying the floor just after you clean it.

If you really want to end up with a floor that smells nice you can add a few drops of Essential Oil to the cotton pad on the bottom of the mop.  I use Protective Blend and Peppermint and my house smells great.

Note: Do not add the Oils to the water used to make the steam.

For those of you have have floors that can’t be cleaned with a steam mop, then please do try doTERRA’s Protective Blend Cleaner Concentrate. It is a fantastic product and can be used to clean the whole house i.e. benches, floors, bathrooms, washing up etc.
