Healthy eating – how confused are you about this?

Healthy eating is something we hear about everyday in all forms of the media including the nightly news, social media posts and all kinds of advertising. It can be quite confusing to know what is good for you and there are also lots of myths about the nutritional value and safety of processed foods. Getting back to basics is a good way to go and you can do that when you cook with a Thermomix®.

Don’t get me wrong, processing of food is not all bad. As a food technologist I can assure you that processes such as drying, freezing, fermenting, pickling and canning are all great ways to prolong the life of foods so that you can enjoy them all year round.

However, if you are concerned about some of the chemical methods used to prolong the life of foods such as the use of preservatives including salt and sugar then you may wish to get back to basics and cook your food from scratch rather than buying premixed sauces or pre-prepared meals. Alternatively, you may have specific food requirements and you may struggle to find food that meets those needs. You have no choice but to prep and cook your own foods so that you can be sure of the ingredients.

You need to identify your health needs and cook in a way that meets those needs.

Using your Thermomix® for Healthy Eating

Here are a few ways that you can use your Thermomix® to enable you to eat healthily:

  • The Thermomix® cooking platform Cookidoo® enables you to search for and easily find recipes that will meet your health needs. For example, you may be on a gluten free or dairy free diet. There are loads of recipes available to you in this platform to meet these needs. There are also tips and ideas to help you to adapt recipes to meet your needs.
  • How many times have you looked at the ingredients on a packet and found that one ingredient that you can’t eat? So frustrating! The Thermomix® blades are so powerful that you can use the machine to grind your own flour, icing sugar, spice seeds and nuts. This enables you to buy simple raw ingredients and process them in the way you need them and at the time you need them. You can also make your own mixes to meet your own health requirements.

  • You can make the most of fresh food in season. Whilst there is nothing wrong with buying frozen vegetables and fruit but if you are growing veg and fruit or have access to the fresh stuff – you can use the Thermomix® to peel, slice and even stew what you have ready to freeze yourself. This also saves you money and allows you to eat your had earned bounty for months to come.

  • Cooking with the Thermomix® is quick and easy and there are loads of recipes that you can cook without much preparation such as the one pot or layered cooking methods using your Varoma®. This means that even on the busiest of evenings you can whip up a meal from scratch and not be tempted to buy in takeaway food. I know that not all takeaway food is bad for you but if you are busy and just trying to please the family how often do you make the wrong choices like chicken and chips or fish and chips????? Yes I know that this is tempting but its not good for you on a regular basis. Do yourself a favour and check out the quick and tasty options in Cookidoo® and choose healthy over takeaway.
