Essential Oils can be used throughout the day to help you regulate your moods, emotions and your focus. It is often as simple as a drop of oil in your palm or a swipe over your wrists and temples. Or if you love using your diffuser try these oils to keep your day on an even keel!
Lavender
Lavender Oil’s primary chemical constituents are linalool, linalyl acetate, and ocimene. Lavender Oil is so versatile that it is a go to oil for so many things that need calming. It can be used to calm the stomach, soothe the skin, calm the nerves etc. Of course, this also means that it is perfect to calm the senses when you want to rest or sleep.
I regularly diffuse Lavender Oil in my house together with a citrus oil and peppermint. Together they provide an almost magical sense of wellbeing. I roll lavender oil on my temples and wrists every morning as part of my morning wake up routine. This helps settle my emotions down even before the day has begun! Lavender reduces anxious feelings, calms strong emotions, and eases tension.
Lavender Oil can also be taken internally in an empty capsule or added to cooking. It provides a unique flavour to desserts such as ice cream and baked goods.
Alternative: Clary Sage or Rosemary
Bergamot
Bergamot Oil’s primary chemical constituents are Limonene, linalyl acetate, linalool, terpinene and β-pinene.
Bergamot is from the citrus family and its properties are unique in that it can be both calming and uplifting. If your mood needs a lift you should try a drop of Bergamot on your palm, rub your hands together and breathe deeply!
Diffuse it as you work for an uplifting and soothing environment when stress levels or tension is high.
Alternative: Other citrus oils including Litsea or Petigrain.
Peppermint
Peppermint Oil’s primary chemical constituents are menthol, menthone and eucalyptol. This oil is excellent for opening airways. It is energizing, stimulating and awakens the nerves and the brain. This is really helpful when you need to focus on your work. I rub this on my temples every morning to help wake myself up. I also diffuse it with citrus almost every day.
Alternative: Spearmint.
Wild Orange
Wild Orange oil has the ability to support the immune system. The main component is Limonene. Wild Orange is versatile and can also be used to lift your mood. Try diffusing it with other citrus oils and with peppermint to give you a great start each day. Try using in cooking e.g. chocolate with Wild Orange is amazing! I add Wild Orange oil to my water bottle each morning.
Alternatives: Lemon Oil, Grapefruit Oil, Lime Oil.
Frankincense
Frankincense Oil’s primary chemical constituents are α-pinene, limonene and α-thujene. This oil is called the king of oil and although it is quite expensive to purchase it is one of the most versatile oils i.e. if in doubt try Frank!!! It supports feelings of peace and it encourages tranquility, reduces mental distraction and focuses the mind.
I diffuse Frankincense with citrus and balancing oils when I feel stressed. You can roll it over your temples, add it to lotions and creams and massage it into your skin, or take a drop under the tongue.
Alternatives for that soothing experience: Fir oils, Eucalyptus oil.
Clary Sage
Clary Sage Oil’s primary chemical constituents are Linalyl acetate and linalool. It is a relaxing, soothing, and balancing essential oil. Try adding to your bath salts and taking a long hot bath. Add it to your night time diffuser blend to calm you when sleep evades you. You can also diffuse with Lavender oil and add to lotions, creams etc.
Alternatives: Rosemary or Lavender
