It’s that time of the year again when we are bothered with colds and flu. Some of my earliest memories as a child were when I was sick with bronchitis and my mother rubbing my chest with Vicks. These days I try to stay clear of commercial health products and like to make my own. This DIY Chest Rub with Essential Oils is a new one for me and I am very excited at how it turned out. I am not sick at the moment but I have some congestion from allergies. I must say, the smell doesn’t knock your socks off i.e. it is quite a gentle smell. Don’t forget that Essential Oils are very powerful and more doesn’t necessarily mean a better result!

I will continue to use the chest rub to clear my airways as we head into the colder months.

Here is the recipe:

What you will need

1/2 cup olive oil

1 tablespoon coconut oil ( the kind you buy in the supermarket)

DIY Chest Rub 1

2 tablespoons of beeswax

20 drops of Eucalyptus Oil

20 drops of  Easy Breathing Essential Oil

20 drops Peppermint Oil

Amazing Essential Oils to Try Now 3

10 drops of Rosemary Oil

5 drops each of Clove and Cinnamon Bark Oil

2 x roll up deodorant containers or a jar with a lid

Method

Using a pyrex jug, melt together the beeswax and oils, until liquid.

Allow to cool slightly (but not too long or the mix will start to set).

Add all Essential Oils and mix around quickly.

Pour into the container and allow to set until solid.

Store in the fridge until you need to use.

To remove the top of the deodorant container the first time hold your hands around the lid for 1-2 minutes. Then gently ease the top off.

Rub over chest, breathe deeply and enjoy the air!

If using for children, dilute the oils with Fractionated Coconut Oil and omit the Clove and Cinnamon oils.
