I really like my kitchen sink to be shiny. But It’s not just about the look, I also like to scrub it with something that will make it very clean. In the past, before I went on a mission to detox my house, I would have used a scourer like Ajax. So I needed to find an alternative. I am glad to say that I found a recipe for a scouring powder and now have a product that works well.

You will need:

A spice or shaker container with a lid to fit over the top of the shaker.

1/4 Bicarbonate of soda

1/4 cup sodium carbonate (also known as washing soda)

1 teaspoon of cream of tartar

10 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil

10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil

Method:

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a glass or stainless steel bowl.

Add the drops of oil and mix through. Make sure you mix it well enough to break up any lumps that might result from adding the oils.

Transfer your mixture into your spice of shaker jar.

To Use:

Sprinkle a small amount of powder around the inside of the sink and scrub with a dampened stainless steel scourer.

Wipe over with a damp cloth.

Allow to dry for a few minutes. You may find that there is a white film over the surface of the sink. This is from the washing soda. It will wash off if you wipe over again with a wet sponge. Your sink should now be shiny and clean.
